DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Rain washed out the Coke Zero 400 as NASCAR postponed its annual Independence Day weekend race to 11 a.m. Sunday at Daytona International Speedway.

NASCAR never got a chance to fire up the Sprint Cup Series cars Saturday night as a steady rain from 5:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a dire forecast for the rest of the night forced NASCAR officials to postponed the 160-lap, 400-mile event. TNT will televise the rescheduled race. MORE: France on schedule changes | MRN's Hall to retire | Lineup breakdown | Picks

The National Weather Service predicts temperatures in the mid-80s with a 51 percent chance of rain Sunday.

David Gilliland is on the pole for the event, the 18th of the 36-race Cup schedule. It is the second Cup event this year to be postponed because of rain.

The race at Texas Motor Speedway in April was postponed one day because of weather. Several races - including the Daytona 500 as well as Bristol - were delayed for several hours because of rain.
