Hermione Granger would be proud of the degree, but Emma Watson's best-known character would likely require less security at her Hogwarts graduation ceremony.

Watson, 24, graduated from Brown University on Sunday at a ceremony that saw the British actress flanked by an undercover police officer throughout.

According to photos published by The Daily Mail, the female police officer at first escorted Watson onto the university campus dressed in plainclothes, but would later change into a graduation cap and gown to appear more discreet. Watson was seated between the officer and her mother, Jacqueline Luesby, throughout the outdoor ceremony in Rhode Island.

Watson enrolled at Brown in 2008, completing a degree in English Literature - occasionally from abroad - over six years. The Harry Potter actress said it was difficult to acclimatize herself to campus life at first, due to her stature as an actress.

'On the first day, I walked into the canteen and everyone went completely silent and turned to look at me,' she told the Sunday Times of her early college experience. 'I had to say to myself, 'It's okay, you can do this. You just have to take a deep breath and gather your courage'.'

Watson also posted a selfie of herself on the day of her graduation to Twitter.
