Hilarious spoof special weather statement for the City of Calgary goes viral

Monday, September 8, 2014, 4:28 PM - A hilarious special weather statement for the City of Calgary has been making the rounds online. But while the statement may be a fake, the snow potential is real.
Nonetheless, the image has gone viral, having been shared and liked thousands of times, primarily through the content-sharing site Reddit. Multiple users claim the hilarious special weather statement is authentic, arguing it was originally posted to the Environment Canada website and then quickly changed to 'something less humorous.'
Here's the spoof statement:
'This is definitely a spoof and not something that appeared on the Environment Canada website,' says Weather Network meteorologist Dayna Vettese. RELATED: The science of forecasting snow
'The funny thing is I saw this on Reddit, and the poster said the statement was issued by The Weather Network, and not Environment Canada. Only Environment Canada issues weather advisories, watches and warnings.'
All kidding aside, snowfall warnings and special weather statements are in place for parts of Alberta -- including the City of Calgary, with up to 10 cm of snow expected in the higher elevations. Special weather statement in effect for the City of Calgary First snowfall of the season is possible Monday, which everybody else in Canada will rightly make fun of your [sic] for, especially Edmonton. Summer will stick around for one more day in Southern [sic] Alberta before an intense cold from moves through on Monday, thereby ruining everything. This cold front is currently producing rain over Northern [sic] Alberta. However, for many areas of Western [sic] Alberta an unseasonably cold Arctic airmass will cause rain to change to snow on Monday, which will be horrible. Current guidance suggests over 5 centimetres of snow is possible for these regions. Some people will try to be positive and say 'Winter is my favourite time of year!', but they are wrong and you should ignore them. The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as warnings may be required or extended. Please monitor the latest forecasts and warnings from Environment Canada at www.weatheroffice.gc.ca.
Some parts of the province woke up to a light dusting of snow Monday, and another round is expected Tuesday evening lasting through to Wednesday morning.
