Glynn, 46, a mainstay of Chicago's superchargedf theater scene, died Saturday after being struck by a tree while cycling with her husband during a sudden thunderstorm, according to the Chicago Tribune. She was 46 and leaves, along with her husband, fellow thesp Joe Foust, sons Chance, 17, and Declan, 13.
In addition to playing an E.R. nurse on Chicago Fire, Glynn also appeared in the Starz series . She was a longtime regular at the city's top-tier theaters, including Steppenwolf and Northlight Theatre.
'To be an actress with red hair - and Molly Glynn was so gifted - is to constantly find your name attached to adjectives like fiery or feisty after even the most minor display of independence or spunk,' Tribune theater critic Chris Jones wrote in a moving elegy to the actress. 'Glynn, who was fond of red sweaters, did not run away from such descriptors - how could she since redheads are often cast that way? But her formidable acting talents also were infinitely more subtle. For audiences for Chicago stages big and small, Glynn was a glowing storyteller, the kind of actress who could light up a stage by her presence...'
The weekend was especially devastating for the Chi theater community. On the same Saturday morning, Bernie Yvon, 50 - a musical comedy actor who had appeared in Cabaret and Mary Poppins, died in a car crash as he was driving to a rehearsal.
