Report an error Related Stories Topics After a busy night on celebrity watch for the Toronto International Film Festival's opening night, lucky QMIs reporter Jenny Yuen and Jane Stevenson returned to the red carpet for a bunch of premieres. Jenny was is on hand for 'Welcome To Me' starring Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell as well as Bill Murray's 'St. Vincent'. Jane is at the red carpets for Dustin Hoffman's 'Boychoir' and 'Ruth & Alex,' starring Morgan Freeman and Diane Keaton. Here are their reports: Jenny Yuen at 'St. Vincent' red carpet: Rain doesn't damper Murray's enthusiasm, bobblehead finds a home:

Bill Murray wishes Toronto Mayor Rob Ford 'the best' of luck in the upcoming mayoral election.

Murray was in town Friday at the premiere his film, St. Vincent, with co-stars Melissa McCarthy and Naomi Watts, scheduled appropriately on 'Bill Murray Day,' proclaimed by TIFF organizers last month.

Proudly donning a plastic gold crown and red sash that read, 'Bill Murray Day,' Murray, graciously accommodated the media anxiously waiting for him on the red carpet, even accepting a Mayor Rob Ford Bobblehead given to him by The Toronto Sun.

I got rid of the Bobblehead!!! Bill Murray got it! #BillMurrayDay #topoli pic.twitter.com/pcJNqGcTyn

- Jenny Yuen (@SunReporterYuen) September 6, 2014

'I haven't met him personally, but he's running again, he's running right now, but he's in the lead, right?' Murray said.

Upon learning that the incumbent mayor is actually in second place according to latest polls, he said, 'Well, he's still got a shot at it. You know, sometimes, St. Paul was a tough guy for a long time and he turned out OK. I hope the best for Rob Ford.'

The 63-year-old star, cool as a cucumber, also encouraged people to celebrate his special day in a more chilled way.

'I think they should just take it easy on themselves a little bit,' he said. 'I think they should just realize we're just flawed from tippy-toe, so rather instead of reacting, just watch a little bit and look at ourselves without any kind of judgement.'

McCarthy said every day ought to be Bill Murray Day.

'Everyone here, we should agree, should get large back tattoos of Bill and I'll be doing them later,' she said.

As part of the day devoted to the Caddyshack star, The TIFF Bell Lightbox showed three Murray classics as free public screenings - Stripes, Groundhog Day and Ghostbusters.

Many showed up in Murray character costumes such as Steve Zissou and Dr. Peter Venkman and Carl Spackler.

Mayor Ford seemed excited about the homage to the actor, tweeting, 'Happy #BillMurrayDay #Toronto! Be sure to check out #TIFF14 where you can watch some of BillMurray's most classic films.'

Director Ivan Reitman introduced Stripes, said Murray and the late Harold Ramis 'changed his life.'

'Working with them was such an extraordinary experience,' he told the Sun at the Lightbox.

Up to 50 Bill Murray fans who attended all three free screenings won a ticket to the world premiere screening of director Theodore Melfi's St. Vincent.

The movie stars Murray as a misanthropic war veteran who plays an unlikely friend and mentor to the young boy of divorced parents who just moved in next door.

Jane Stevenson at the 'Ruth & Alex' red carpet: Diane Keaton arrives in style:

Neither rain nor thunder nor lightening nor wind could ruin legendary actress Diane Keaton's stylish entrance on the TIFF red carpet for her movie, Ruth & Alex, with fellow Oscar winner and co-star Morgan Freeman, on Friday night at Roy Thomson Hall.

After a violent storm rolled through the area temporarily turning off lights on the red carpet while some rain leaked through the plastic roofed white tents, Keaton turned up in an off white blazer and matching pants, a wide black belt, widebrimmed black hat and high heels.

When I asked if the weather had ruined her look, the 68-year-old deadpanned: 'Does it look like it?'

We all said, 'No!'

Keaton responded: 'You're lying I know. I can tell when you're lying.'

She also pulled two reporters in gem toned dressed of fuschia and orange to be photographed with her on the red carpet, clearly liking their 'look.'

Another thing she clearly liked was kissing Freeman in the movie about a longtime married couple forced to contemplate selling their Brooklyn home as they face aging issues.

'He was my favourite husband I've ever had,' she said. 'His mouth was the most beautiful cushion ever.'

The very youthful looking 77-year-old Freeman said his handsome secret was, 'Don't take yourself too seriously.'

And working with Keaton? What you see is what you get, he said.

'I didn't have any surprises with Diane. I knew what to expect.'

Jane Stevenson at the 'Boychoir' red carpet: Dustin Hoffman shares some wisdom, Eddie Izzard baffled by Canada's mayor problems:

It's a tough job but someone has to do it.

That's Boychoir star Dustin Hoffman talking about his role in Quebec director Francois Girard's movie, that was inspired by the real life choirmaster of American Boychoir school, a music boarding school and day school in Plainsboro, New Jersey.

'Yes, it is (hard),' Hoffman said on the TIFF red carpet on Friday night at Roy Thomson Hall, also attended by Boychoir co-stars Eddie Izzard, Josh Lucas and Kevin McHale (Glee), 13-year-old newcomer Garrett Wareing and real-life Boychoir members who broke into song on cue.

'Because these kids are kids, and as much as they are aware that what they have is this gift from God, which is temporary, they're also just kids. And that's what the choir master told me, who this film is based on, which is the American Boys Choir, is to focus them and make them realize that they're going to wake up one morning and it's going to be gone forever.'

Gulp.

Meanwhile, Izzard, whose mother sang in choirs at Royal Albert Hall in London, told us he can 'sing badly. I've got a latent voice in me,' and his taste for music runs: 'Mozart to Pulp. I have a very commerical sound in the back of my head but I drive into a more alternative place. But I wonder where the '60s and '70s went. That stuff, when people were buying heart and soul in music, that seems to have gone somewhere.'

The British actor-comic also confirmed he's going to run for politics in England in 2020, either for mayor of London or member of Parliament.

When asked if he had any advice for Toronto's beleagured Mayor Rob Ford, Izzard - who shot the TV show Hannibal in the area last year and saw some of the politically damaging video of the T.O. mayor - responded: 'I'd say new career?

'I mean he's really going to try and stand for re-election? I think you've got a mayor thing 'cause doesn't Montreal have a mayor problem as well? I mean, 'Canada, just work out the mayor thing!' Is it all levels of politics or just mayors?'

Jenny Yuen at the 'Welcome to Me' red carpet: Will Ferrell passes up Robbie Bobbie

Comedian Will Ferrell may have met Toronto's embattled mayor in past years, but he bypassed the offer for a Rob Ford Bobblehead at TIFF.

Ferrell, the producer of Welcome to Me, which premiered at the Princess of Wales Theatre Friday afternoon, spoke to a few select media outlets before rushing past the red carpet towards the theatre entrance, leaving a new third-edition Robbie-Bobbie not in the possession of celebrity hands.

- Jenny Yuen (@SunReporterYuen) September 5, 2014

'Sorry,' Ferrell said to media as he was whisked away to the film screening.

Ferrell, along with comedian and actor Zach Galifianakis, met Ford in July 2012 at the Hockey Hall of Fame after riding a Zamboni down Yonge St. during a promotional stop of their film The Campaign.

At the time, Ford awkwardly presented the two celebrities with mini Stanley Cups and a collection of Rob Ford for Mayor magnets, bumper stickers and business cards.

In a follow-up interview following the meeting, Ferrell acknowledged Ford as 'a very nice fellow' that 'gave us a lot of paraphernalia.'

Welcome to Me stars fellow SNL alumni Kristen Wiig as a woman battling borderline personality disorder who, as luck would have it, wins the lottery, quits her mess and buys her own talk show.

Co-star Linda Cardellini said at the premiere the movie is about a woman who desperately wants something, but once she has it realizes it causes her unhappiness.

'It happens to people all the time -- you want something so bad and it actually comes a little different than you expected, but I always try to learn to be grateful for any of the opportunities that I have, even the terrible ones.'

Outside the theatre, Courtney Perrin, 22, waited hours for autographs from Ferrell and Wiig.

'Kristen was very nice, she signed my poster,' she said. 'Will got very intense, very pushy, but he was great. About 20 people got signed -- I had a picture of The Other Guys signed. It's about sharing your love and passion of film with others.'
