Although country singer Blake Shelton has openly shared his grief about losing his brother, 24-year-old bother Richie Shelton, when he was only 14, there's one shocking detail he left out. According to a new tabloid rumor, Blake's late brother was not really a 'Shelton' at all.

In the latest issue of Star Magazine sources claims Blake Shelton's brother was actually born out of their mother's union with her first husband, Ronnie Musgrove. Apparently, the name-change took place in the wake of heated tensions over an affair the boys' mom had, and her quest for vengeance against Musgrove. Simply put, she did it out of spite, according to Ronnie's mom, Pauline, and Blake's dead brother's secret remained hidden until a recent revelation.

'After Ronnie divorced Dorothy following her affair with Dick Shelton, she got back at him by changing their son's name to Shelton when he was about 2 years old. She didn't want Richie to know anything about our family; It was like she was taking Richie away from his father. I believe it hurt Ronnie a lot.'

Musgrove died 10 years ago and 'didn't get to see Richie much during his childhood, because he was living with the Shelton,' according to Pauline.

Blake Shelton touched the hearts of fans when he spoke about the impetus behind 'Over You,' a hit song he co-wrote with wife Miranda Lambert. At the 2012 CMA AWards, Shelton spoke fondly of his late brother Richie and said the song was inspired by his death. In fact, the tragedy served as the launching pad for Blake's pursuit of a career in country music.

'I lost my brother in a car wreck when I was 14 years old. Later in life, when I decided I wanted to be a country singer, my dad always told me, 'Son, you should write a song about your brother.' I lost my dad in January, and it's so amazing to me that tonight - even after he's gone - he's still right.'

Blake Shelton's brother died tragically in 1990 from injuries sustained in a car accident. The good news is that the country star appears to have come to grips with the family secret. What's more, according to his mother, Richie learned about his past since the name-change as a 2-year-old child. Furthermore, before his death, he and his biological father spent time together and attempted to catch up on lost time.

'When Richie got older, he realized who his father was and he would come over and spend time with me and Ronnie. Those were good times. My grandson was lucky enough to be blessed with not one but two wonderful fathers.'
