Hot News: Solange Knowles attacks Jay-Z in hotel elevator

In a bizarre outburst, Solange Knowles has been caught on tape trying to attack her brother-in-law, Jay-Z.

The incident took place in a hotel elevator following a Met Ball after-party in New York last Monday night.

In the footage, obtained by TMZ, Solange is seen gesticulating wildly and attempting to kick and punch the rapper while Beyonce looks on passively.

As soon as the trio enter the lift at the Standard Hotel, Solange is seen to confront Jay-Z in a seemingly unprovoked attack.

What appears to be a verbal altercation soon escalates with Solange physically lashing out before being restrained by a man, who appears to be a security guard.

Beyonce's sister manages to break free of the security guard's grip and again launches herself at 44-year-old Jay-Z, all the while dropping the contents of her purse on the floor.

The security guard is seen to press the emergency stop button to pause the lift and seemingly keep the fight private from the world's media who are waiting at the ground floor.

At one point, when the 27-year-old Solange tries to kick him with her stiletto, Jay-Z grabs her foot, but at no point attempts to retaliate. Beyonce and the security guard then stand between them both to separate them while Beyonce appears to try and pacify the pair.

As the lift reaches the ground floor and they attempt to exit the elevator, Solange is seen to attack again, smashing Jay-Z over the head with her shiny purse, which the security guard has picked up and returned to the singer.

The group then exit the lift where Beyonce attempts to smile for the gaggle of photographers.

She and Solange climb into a waiting car while a distressed-looking Jay-Z walks to a separate vehicle.

It is not known what caused the fight between the pair, who have known each other for more than a decade.

Since the fight, Beyonce posted a cryptic prayer on her Instagram account asking for help to separate herself from those who are not a good influence in her life.

The post read: 'Lord, I lift up every one of my relationships to you and ask You to bless them....

'Help me to choose friends wisely so I won't be led astray. Give me discernment and strength to separate myself from anyone who is not a good influence. I release my relationships to You and pray that Your will be done in each one of them.'

Meanwhile, Solange, who has previously spoken about her closeness with her older sister and insisted 'there's never been any competition' deleted all pictures of Beyonce from her Instagram, bar one.

Neither has spoken publicly about the altercation.

Whatever the cause, Beyonce and Jay-Z, who married in 2008 and have a daughter together, appear to be fine. The pair were pictured looking affectionate at a Brooklyn Nets basketball game on Saturday while Solange played a gig in New York.
