OTTAWA - Conrad Black has so far been silent on the Governor-General's decision to remove him from the Order of Canada.
David Johnston made the announcement late yesterday.
He acted on the recommendation of an advisory council looking at the matter in light of Black's conviction in the U-S on fraud and obstruction of justice.
Johnston also announced that Black has been stripped of his honorary position in the Privy Council of Canada, at the recommendation of Prime Minister Harper.
The advisory council's members include the chief justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, Beverley McLachlin, and Canada's top public servant Wayne Wouters, the clerk of the Privy Council.
Black is the sixth Canadian to be stripped of the Order of Canada.
The other five were Alan Eagleson, David Ahenakew, T. Sher Singh, Stephen Fonyo Jr. and Garth Drabinsky.
Black served 37 months in a U-S prison but argued repeatedly that the case against him was the result of an unfair prosecution.
