CBC meteorologist Johanna Wagstaffe says big changes are on the way for Vancouver's weather, as we say goodbye to spring-like conditions.
A ridge of high pressure that has been responsible for sunshine and mild temperatures is weakening today, and that's allowing easterly winds to bring in cold and dry air from the Interior.
An Arctic front has spread westward across much of B.C. today, and the South Coast will get a taste of that air mass over the next couple days.
Temperatures tonight for Vancouver will drop down to sub-zero values along with very gusty easterly winds for the valley.
Because the air will be so dry to start, it's likely we may see some morning sun before afternoon cloud and evening light snow kick in.
A low-pressure system developing off the coast of Vancouver Island tomorrow may add the needed moisture to the cold air for this to be a weekend snow event.
There is still a lot of uncertainty on the timing and details of the snow event that is looking more likely to occur during the day, Saturday before changing over to rain, Monday.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the wintry weather this weekend. Once again, elevation and location will play a huge role in who gets what, but it will be a very interesting weekend to say the least.
