Russia beat Canada 2-1 in the battle for bronze at the world junior championship in Sweden today.
Mikhail Grigorenko scored a power play goal for the Russians to give them an early 1-0 lead over Canada, 3½ minutes into the game. Eduard Gimatov scored Russia's second goal just a few minutes later.
Josh Morrissey stepped up for Canada in the third period to score his first world junior goal, but Russia held on to win it.
Superior goal tending earned Russia's Andrei Vasilevski the player of the game title.
Team Canada had to settle for a chance to battle for third place after a 5-1 loss to Finland on Saturday.
The Canada-Russia pairing was the first of two games scheduled as the championship winds down. Later today, Sweden and Finland battle it out for gold, starting at 1 p.m. ET.
