The Vikings running back is reportedly wanted in a case surrounding the whipping of his four-year-old son.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson in relation to a child abuse incident, according to ESPN. Peterson has not yet been taken into custody.

The warrant stems from a case in Montgomery County, Texas, where Peterson has reportedly been indicted for reckless or negligent injury of a child. Police reports obtained by Sports Radio 610 in Houston state that Peterson's four-year-old son sustained extensive cuts and bruising during a trip to Houston to visit his father. In the report, the boy claims that Peterson thrashed him with a switch.

A doctor cited in the report referred to the boy's injuries as 'child abuse.' More on Adrian Peterson

As a result of the warrant, Peterson must turn himself into authorities.

'He'll be surrendering as soon as he can when it works out with the authorities, but we don't have a time right now,' Hardin told Matt Venzel of the Minneapolis Star-Triune.

The Vikings have issued a press release claiming they have deactivated the star running back for Sunday's game against the New England Patriots. Peterson was absent from practice on Wednesday (the team said it was not injury-related) but returned on Thursday.
