American runner Ben Bruce won this year's Montreal marathon with a time of 2:22:38.
Bruce, who hails from San Diego, Calif., crossed the finish line just before 11:00 a.m.
Bruce said the warm temperature was a surprise and forced him to slow down his pace.
'I came to Canada hoping it would be cooler,' he said after crossing the finish line.
Sunday's maximum temperature was expected to reach 26 C.
Last year's winner, David Savard-Gagnon of Baie-Saint-Paul, Que., finished second in 2:29:08.
Oukid Fehti from the Montreal suburb of St-Leonard finished third with a time of 2:31:43.
Nearly 35,000 runners from 45 countries signed up for one of the five races - the marathon, half-marathon, and the 10k, 5k and 1k races.
The marathon started at 8:30 a.m. on the Jacques-Cartier bridge.
The half-marathon winner was announced just over an hour later, when Daniel Kipkoech of Lethbridge, Alta., crossed the finish line with a time of 1:05:46.
The course takes runners through Île Ste-Hélène, Île Notre-Dame, and several neighbourhoods in the central and eastern parts of the island before reaching the finish line at La Fontaine Park.
The marathon is part of the Rock 'n' Roll Oasis marathon series. Twenty live concerts by local artists are taking place along the various race routes. Driver delays
Motorists can expect delays for much of the morning and early afternoon as several roads are blocked off .
For people getting to and from the South Shore, the Jacques-Cartier Bridge is closed until noon.
The Metro's yellow line is in service today. The line has been shut down on weekends for repairs, which will resume next weekend.
