It's that time of the year, when world-famous celebz™ descend on Canada's largest city for the annual Toronto International Film Festival. Prepare yourself for an amazing 12 days of glitz, glamour, red carpets, hot bodies, swag bags and the occasional film. This is the 39th year of the venerable Toronto festival, and the festivities got underway Wednesday night at several swanky events including the annual TIFF Gala, tickets to which cost $1,500. All worth it, though, for the chance to see those celebz™.

OK, I may have oversold the celebz™ angle up top. This is Scott McGillivray, host of several HGTV real estate shows. Not famous enough for you? If you squint, he kind of looks like Tom Cruise. He was at the Producers Ball at the Royal Ontario Museum on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014, in Toronto.

Arlene Dickinson and David Chilton of Dragons' Den, also at the Producers Ball on Sept. 3. Dickinson wearing some kind of vest-dress hybrid and Chilton throwing caution to the wind and going without a tie. This is the kind of bold decision-making that led them to become fearsome Dragons in the first place.

Husband and wife Don Carmody, right, and Catherine Gourdier attend the Producers Ball at the Royal Ontario Museum on Sept. 3, 2014. Carmody told the Globe and Mail he is 'Hollywood's man in Canada.' This has been your introduction to Don Carmody, courtesy of the National Post.

Canadian actors Gabrielle Miller, left, and Tara Spencer-Nairn pose in front of a unicycle at the Producers Ball.

Dancers Heather Ogden and Guillaume Cote of the National Ballet of Canada at the Producers Ball on Sept. 3, 2014. But back to that unicycle. I mean, it's probably a unicycle. Why? Who knows. There's also a burlap sack just sitting there, and maybe a hula hoop? This is why you don't hire circus performers to set up your red carpet.

Poor people perform for the entertainment of rich people at the Producers Ball at the Royal Ontario Museum on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014.

Former MTV Canada hosts Jessi Cruickshank, left, and Dan Levy at the Producers Ball. What is he, auditioning to be the next Trivago Guy? Put on a belt.

Too close, buddy. Give the camera some room.

Actors Taylor McKay, left, and Gregory Smith. Together, they weigh about 130 pounds.

Canadian actress Kristin Booth, currently a cast member on Orphan Black, which your geeky friends insist is a really good show. At the 3rd Annual TIFF Gala during the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.

Hey, finally a tie - and a belt! Well done, Barry Levinson, but you lose points for tucking the tie into your belt. What's the matter with you? Still looking better than Brian de Palma, though.
