By now, you have likely seen the new trailer for Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron.
If you haven't, take a couple minutes to watch.
It's delicious. Brian Truitt breaks down some of the notable moments over on Entertain This!. There is plenty to take in. We see Captain America's seemingly impenetrable shield broken and Iron Man's Hulkbuster armor, but there's one recurring theme throughout the two minute trailer that is inescapably haunting.
Ultron's voice pierces every scene with a creepiness that makes your flesh crawl.
Voiced by James Spader, Ultron recites a truly dreadful rendition of 'I've Got No Strings' that leaves you utterly distraught and desperate for more.
There was little doubt that Marvel would capably cast the role of Ultron, but it's understandable if you raised an eyebrow upon hearing that Robert California got the part. Spader nailed it.
Now that casual audiences know Ultron as the undeniably sinister sentient robot he's been since 1968, here is some of his backstory you won't get from watching the trailer. Origin
Ultron was the creation of Dr. Henry Pym, the original Ant-Man who is played by Michael Douglas in the 2015 film of the same name. Pym created Ultron while experimenting with artificial intelligence, giving the robot his consciousness and brain patterns. In doing so, Pym gave Ultron his genius but also the mental instability he suffers from. What makes him evil
Ultron has daddy issues. When Pym brought Ultron to life, the robot not only adopted Pym's genius, he also acquired emotions, the greatest of which was an unfathomable hatred for Pym and the human race. Where do the Avengers show up?
In the comics Pym is one of the Avengers founding members, so it makes sense that if Ultron wanted to destroy Pym, he'd also want to destroy his superhero friends.
In the film, Tony Stark brings Ultron to back to life as a peacekeeping mechanism. As some may remember from the first Avengers movie, S.H.I.E.L.D was destroyed, leaving the world exposed to outside threats. Stark's solution is to revive a psychopathic super robot, and chaos ensues. Is there anything else to know?
The trailer was supposed to be released in conjunction with next Tuesday's Agents of SHIELD episode on ABC, but someone leaked the footage early. Marvel has a theory.
Avengers: Age of Ultron premieres May 1, 2015 in theaters nationwide. That's 190 days from now. Not that anyone is counting. Want more stories like this?
