It's a strange but welcome day in Toronto: For the first time in years, the Raptors kick off their season with hopes high.
The Raptors won a franchise record 48 games and claimed a surprise Atlantic Division title last year, and with their roster largely intact, they are favourites to repeat.
There will be challenges along the way - How will they cope with a target on their backs? Can they stay relatively injury-free after a year of good health? - and their first will come Wednesday night when they open the year against the Atlanta Hawks.
'The team we're playing [Wednesday] night, they went as far as we did last year, Game 7 of the first round of the playoffs,' Raptors coach Dwane Casey said on Tuesday. And 'they got better.'
Will Wednesday night's opener be the first step to the playoffs or the start of a disappointing year? Either way, The Raptor is back, so they've got that going for them.
