Scouts will be handing out apples for the annual community appreciation event October 17-19
OTTAWA, Oct. 16, 2014 /CNW/ - It's apple season again, which means the return of a familiar sight: this weekend. Thousands of Scouts across the country will be out in force, taking part in Scouts Canada 's annual iconic Apple Day event. Keep an eye out for Scouts at local plazas, grocery stores and malls, where they will be distributing apples as a way of saying 'Thank you!' to the communities that support Scouting throughout the year.
This year, Apple Day takes place on October 18 in British Columbia and New Brunswick , and from October 17-19 in Ontario . Canadians can participate by picking up an apple and leaving a donation. All donations directly support the local Scouting groups and will be used to continue to offer quality programming for boys, girls and youth and make scouting accessible and affordable for everyone. Donations help pay for activities, equipment such as camping gear, reduce costs of trips for families and subsidize membership fees.
Originating in New Brunswick, the Apple Day tradition dates back more than 80 years, and arose as way to provide Scouting youth with an opportunity to show their appreciation to the communities that support them.
