The defending Masters champion was back on top at the Masters before running into trouble at Amen Corner.

Adam Scott's Masters defense got off to a good start on Thursday, but like many others, he ran into some trouble at Amen Corner. Scott was alone in the lead heading into the stretch, but is now trailing by two shots.

His round got off to an excellent start with a birdie on the opening hole. He added a birdie at No. 6 and another at No. 8 to make the turn at 3-under. With Miguel Angel Jimenez faltering, Scott moved into the lead and improved to 4-under with another birdie at No. 10. He appeared to be in control and cruising along, but then he hit Amen Corner. After hitting nine of 11 greens to begin his round, Scott ran into trouble off the 12th tee.

He appeared to try and take something off his tee shot on the par-3, but took a little too much off. His ball hit the bank short of the green and rolled back into Rae's Creek.

Scott had a decent chance to salvage a bogey, but missed the putt left and had to tap in for a double. At 2-under through 12, he's two strokes behind Bill Haas who leads at 4-under. Haas made it through Amen Corner clean, finishing off the stretch with a birdie at No. 13. He added another birdie at No. 14 to move into the lead.

Haas is the latest player to move into the lead. That spot was once held by Miguel Angel Jimenez, but he also ran into trouble at Amen Corner. Jimenez bogeyed No. 11 then, like Scott, found the water off the tee at No. 12.

Jimenez made a double and is now 1-under through 14 holes. Rory McIlroy is also 1-under, notching two birdies and a bogey through 11 holes.
