The husband-and-wife singer-songwriters Paul Simon and Edie Brickell were arrested over the weekend in Connecticut and charged with disorderly conduct, the authorities said on Monday. Mr. Simon and Ms. Brickell own a house in New Canaan, Conn., where, the police said in a news release, they investigated a 'family dispute' on Saturday night at approximately 8:20 p.m.

The police said that investigating officers 'gathered information and found probable cause to arrest' Mr. Simon and Ms. Brickell.

They were released on a promise to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Monday.

Mr. Simon is the Grammy Award-winning artist whose songs include 'The Sound of Silence,' 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' and 'Kodachrome.' Ms. Brickell, also a Grammy winner, has performed as a solo artist, with the band New Bohemians and with Steve Martin. Mr. Simon and Ms. Brickell were married in 1992 and have three children.

Mr. Simon's lawyer and a representative for Ms. Brickell did not immediately respond on Monday to requests for comment. This post has been revised to reflect the following correction: Correction: April 28, 2014

An earlier version of this post gave an incorrect title for a song written by Paul Simon. It is 'Bridge Over Troubled Water,' not 'Bridge Over Troubled Waters.'
