TORONTO, April 24, 2014 /CNW/ - Mother's Day is less than three weeks away. Are you struggling to find the perfect gift for your mom or spouse and debating how much to spend? Ebates.ca polled Canadian moms to find out what they want for Mother's Day and how much to spend on gifts. The research showed a generational divide in expectations when it comes to Mother's Day gift giving, with moms under 35 saying $75 on average is an appropriate amount to spend on a gift, while moms over 35 are satisfied with a gift worth $50 on average.

While nearly all Canadian moms (97%) want a gift, younger moms are especially bold about gift giving - 64% drop hints about what they would like for Mother's Day and over half (51%) have actually selected their own gift. If it were their choice, they would most like to receive a meal out, gift card, jewellery, a getaway, or flowers, in that order. Interestingly, the most common Mother's Day gift given in 2013 was flowers, revealing a discrepancy in what moms want versus what they actually receive.

'Shopping for the ideal present shouldn't be a stressful experience. Don't be afraid to ask your mom for suggestions and then go online and research your options to find the best item at the best price,' says Adrienne Down Coulson, general manager, Ebates.ca, who is also a mom of two young children.

Adrienne offers these tips to help guide your Mother's Day shopping:

Compare prices at multiple online retailers before making a purchase. A little pre-planning can save you money in the end. Know what you're looking for in advance. Making a list of the items your mom wants will help curb impulse spending. Look for deals when shopping online and consider things like duty and shipping charges, and whether you're paying in Canadian currency. If you typically buy flowers but want to get your mom a higher priced experience, like a day at the spa or a weekend away, take advantage of online coupons, promotion codes and cash back shopping websites, like Ebates.ca.For example, purchasing a WaySpa gift card through Ebates.ca will earn you cash back while providing mom with the ability to choose the treatment she wants at the spa she prefers.

If you're looking to get a higher value gift for less, keep in mind that from April 22 to May 11, 2014, Ebates.ca is hosting a Mother's Day event during which you can earn double cash back from over a dozen retailers, including Blue Nile, WaySpa, The Body Shop, 1-800-Flowers and many more. You can also visit www.facebook.com/EbatesCanada between May 1 and May 11 for a chance to win daily cash prizes including a $200 giveaway on Mother's Day.

About the Ebates.ca survey: Ebates Canada commissioned Ignite Research to conduct an online survey of Canadians across the country. Responses were collected from April 3 to 10, 2014.

How Ebates.ca works: To earn cash back when shopping online, you simply begin your online shopping at Ebates.ca, click through to one of the partner retail sites like Walmart.ca, Shop.ca, or Indigo.ca, and then complete your purchase on that site. Ebates.ca then tracks your purchase and you receive a percentage of everything you buy back in cash. Then Ebates sends consumers their cash back account balance in the form of a cheque, called 'The Big Fat Cheque.' Alternatively customers may direct their cash back towards a designated charity.

The Ebates brand supports a strong community of millions of savvy shoppers around the world. Founded in 1998, Ebates.com has paid over $100,000,000 in cash to its global members.
