Cobie Smulders had the best seat in the house for the How I Met Your Mother series finale. The Avengers star, who played Robin on the CBS sitcom for nine years, shared the inside picture on her Instagram after the series wrapped up on Monday, March 31.

'Spoilers!! Best seat in the house. Thank you HIMYM,' Smulders captioned the above photo. 'Thank you to everyone who worked on HIMYM and to the fans who kept us on the air for the last 9 years!!! What a wonderful ride!' she tweeted on the day of the series finale. NEWS: How to hate the How I Met Your Mother finale less!

Ted ( Josh Radnor) completed the story of how he met the mother of his children ( Cristin Milioti), but the show didn't end there. After telling the story of how he met the now-deceased mother, Ted's kids gave him their blessing to pursue a relationship with Robin once again.

'Carter [Bays] and Craig [Thomas], are so smart. They had actually planned the ending during our pilot,' Smulders said on The Late Show with David Letterman. 'They shot some scenes with the two children-we shot it with them when they were teenagers and now they're in their mid-20s-we shot this whole scene with them. It's kind of amazing that it's been nine years and it's come full-circle and they've been allowed to see their vision through.'

The ending didn't sit well with some fans who took to Twitter to discuss their frustration with how everything turned out for the beloved characters. MORE: How I Met Your Mother boss speaks out after finale rattles fans

'There are so many opinions floating around. There have always been people that thought that Barney and Robin were perfect together, there have always been people that thought it didn't make sense. There are people that wanted Ted and Robin to be together. There are people that thought they didn't work together,' Radnor told Vulture. 'So I just feel that part of the divisiveness and part of the anger and also part of the enthusiasm all speaks to something really great. I think if you're going do something new and bold and daring, you're going to upset some people and you're gonna thrill others. I think it's better to do that than try to have some homogenized, safe ending that was never really what the show was. The show was always bold and daring and questioning assumptions and leading you where you thought you didn't want to go, but realized at the end that that was where you belonged.'

And that blue French horn Ted showed up with? It's now Radnor's as the actor revealed it's the only prop from HIMYM he asked to keep. CLICK NOW: See how HIMYM ranks among the best and the worst TV finales of all time!
