The exec producers of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD have stated that they 'can't wait' to start work on a second season.

The ABC series is yet to be officially renewed, but Jeph Loeb told Entertainment Weekly that he is hoping for '100 more' episodes.

'This is absolutely an ongoing story,' Loeb said. 'For this season, it's 22 [stories], and let's hope that we get to tell 100 more.'

The events of big-screen blockbuster Captain America: The Winter Soldier will continue to impact the TV series, co-exec Jeff Bell confirmed.

'Here's the thing: Hydra is now loose,' Bell teased. 'SHIELD has fallen apart [and] we're trying to figure who we can and cannot trust.

'Hydra's out there, nobody trusts us... we can't wait to tell those stories.'

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD airs on ABC (Tuesdays, 8/7c) in the US and on Channel 4 (Fridays, 8pm) in the UK. Agents of SHIELD: Samuel L Jackson to star as Nick Fury in season finale
