Skye McCole Bartusiak passed away at the young age of 21 on July 19. Her mother, Helen McCole Bartusiak, revealed the devastating news of her daughter's death to .
'We lost our girl,' Helen told CNN.
That's just so devastating. Skye was just so young.
'She was a kind and really beautiful girl,' Helen also said.
Investigators do not yet have an official cause of death, but her mother said she had been suffering from epileptic seizures recently.
Skye's boyfriend found her sitting up in her bed in the apartment adjacent to her parents' home, her mother said to CNN.
'We think she had a seizure and choked and nobody was there,' her mother said.
Helen began cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Skye before paramedics arrived. 'They were working on her for 45 minutes and could not get a heartbeat,' she told the outlet.
'I've done CPR on that kid more than one time and it just didn't work this time,' Helen said.
So sad.
Skye was best known for her role in 2000′s The Patriot. She played the young daughter of Mel Gibson's character in the film. She also starred alongside the late Heath Ledger and Jason Isaacs.
Her first role was in The Cider House Rules in 1999. She went on to make appearances in television on shows like 24, House M.D. and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
