Though Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, involved in a scary-looking car accident Tuesday, was listed in fair condition when he arrived at Carolinas Medical Center, the team announced that he's sustained two fractures in his back.
Further testing revealed that Cam Newton has two transverse process fractures in his lower back and no further internal injuries.- Carolina Panthers (@Panthers) December 9, 2014
Newton will remain in the hospital overnight for additional observation, and it's unclear when he will return to work. According to the Charlotte Observer, doctors don't think Newton suffered a head injury of any kind.
Team not commenting on anything football-related. But clearly could've been a lot of worse.- Joe Person (@josephperson) December 9, 2014
An interesting tidbit about Newton's injury:
FYI.. The transverse fractures in Newton's back.. essentially the same injury Romo had after hit in MNF game vs Washington- trey wingo (@wingoz) December 9, 2014
Tony Romo missed one game before returning from that injury.
