Spoilers ahoy! Read down at your own risk if you have yet to see the 'Need for Speed' film.
It's been barely a day since the Scott Walsh film adaptation of the racing video game franchise hit the North American theaters, yet some of the stars of 'Need for Speed' have already shared their thoughts on the film's ending and the tentative plot of the possible sequel.
Dominic Cooper recently talked about his character breaking out of jail to return for 'Need for Speed 2,' the Irish publication Independent reported.
The 35-year-old English actor plays the primary villain, Dino Brewster, who ends up going to jail at the end of the film following a loss to protagonist Tobey Marshall, played by Aaron Paul, for the murder of Tobey's friend and partner Little Pete (Harrison Gilbertson).
Cooper reveals a little of what was, perhaps, the original draft of the script, in addition to hinting about possible future developments, saying, 'I was meant to die at the end, but when I realised I wasn't falling off the cliff any more, I thought, 'Maybe I could come back'. But I've gone to jail for a very long time... Maybe I'll escape.'
The actor expressed his interest in reprising his role if there was a sequel, saying, 'I hope so. I'm sure that's their plan, to make a successful franchise out of it,' when asked.
Cooper has also admitted to watching the film again in an effort to find a more humane or likeable side to his decidedly evil and unrepentant psycho of a character.
'Having watched it again, I thought there's nothing pleasant about him at all. But I think the issue with a character like Dino is not to make him as completely and utterly repulsive from the word go,' Cooper said.
'You learn pretty quickly that he's capable of some pretty awful things so I suppose it's about trying to have some idea and understanding of why he does what he does in the film, so he's not an out-and-out bad guy.'
Cooper's words might lead to possible plans of exploring his character more, with a possible form of redemption in future installments. After all, a character already down to the depths of depravity only opens up the possibility of being brought back up.
In addition to his role in 'Need for Speed,' which is out now, Dominic Cooper will also reprise his role as Howard Stark in the upcoming Marvel film sequel 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' slated for release on April 4 in North America
