By late evening on Friday, someone in B.C. could be a millionaire.

The Lotto Max draw is an estimated $50 million tonight, and there are 50 Maxmillions prizes of $1 million each.

Spokesperson for the B.C. Lottery Corporation, BCLC, Chris Fairclough, said this is the sixth biggest jackpot in Canadian lottery history.

He said a jackpot of this amount generates hundreds of thousands in ticket sales, particularly among people who only play these big jackpots, known as 'jackpot chasers.'

'During the lunch hour and after work, we generally see about 1,000 transactions a minute,' said Fairclough. 'In B.C., there's trends among lotto buyers across the country, but here in B.C. we tend to see jackpot chasers.'

In B.C. there is a cap on lottery jackpots of $50 million so that is why there is not the huge Mega Millions or Powerball jackpots typically seen in the U.S. Fairclough said, in theory, the 649 jackpot could get that high, but has not been above $64 million in the past.

'Our lottery typically has about 1 in 14 million odds,' said Fairclough. 'For the Powerball there is about 1 in 100 million odds, so it's in those odds that determine what that jackpot will grow to.'

'We want to see people win the lottery in B.C.'

Tickets for tonight's draw will not be sold after 6 p.m. The draw is done between 6 and 7 p.m. and the results will be posted on the BCLC website as soon as possible after that.

'Should there be a lucky winner in B.C., they will have 52 weeks to claim their prize,' said Fairclough.
