HBO's new drama series The Leftovers got off to a fair start Sunday night. The post-apocalyptic-ish suburban malaise drama from Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof delivered 1.8 million viewers for its first episode. Along with its repeat, Leftovers had 2.1 million for the night. In the show based on Tom Perrotta's novel, a New York town struggles to cope in the aftermath of 2 percent of the world's population vanishing. Check out Jeff Lebrecque's Leftovers premiere recap.

By comparison, the second episode of the final season of True Blood had 3.1 million viewers for its first episode, 3.5 million for the night.

Also Sunday night in the ratings: CBS ' Big Brother (5.8 million, 1.8 rating) dipped for the premiere of its Sunday edition, down 22 percent from the Thursday edition, yet still led the night. The premiere of CBS' new series Reckless (4.1 million, 0.7 rating) got off to a very weak start. The second week of ABC's Rising Star (4.7 million, 1.2 rating) fell 20 percent from its soft debut.
