The cast has been announced for Warner Bros. upcoming 'Suicide Squad' movie. Get ready to see Jared Leto, Tom Hardy, Will Smith and more as supervillains on suicide missions for the government.

A little different to the spandex Samaritans in the rest of the superhero movies announced by Warner Bros., 'Suicide Squad' is about a team of supervillains given a chance at redemption by the government. The only snag is that the 'chance' is a series of incredibly dangerous missions that none of them are expected to survive. The studio looks to be pulling no punches, announcing an impressive cast earlier today.
Casting rumours surrounding the Joker and sidekick Harly Quinn proved solid, with Oscar winner Jared Leto ('Dallas Buyers Club') and Margo Robbie ('The Wolf of Wall Street') set to fill those particular sets of clown shoes. The rest of the ensemble cast is no less star-studded, with Deadshot, assassin supreme, played by Will Smith ('After Earth'), Tom Hardy ('The Dark Knight Rises') as Rick Flagg, Cara Delevigne as Enchantress and Australian Jai Courtney ('Jack Reacher') as token Australian, Boomerang.
Still up for grabs is the part of the domineering mastermind behind the whole Suicide Squad operation, government agent Amanda Waller. According to Variety the studio's current shortlist includes Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and the studio's first choice, Oprah Winfrey.
Variety is also reporting that Jesse Eisenberg is rumoured to reprise his role as Lex Luthor for the film, after playing the part in the upcoming 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'.
Other details about the movie are thin on the ground right now. Helmed by director David Ayer ('Fury', 'Training Day') and produced by Charles Roven (The Dark Knight Trilogy) and Richard Suckle ('American Hustle'), 'Suicide Squad' will begin shooting in April 2015, so expect to hear more soon.
The modern incarnation of the Suicide Squad, featuring Waller, Deadshot and company, was created by writer John Ostrander in 1987. The team of nothing-to-lose supervillains has been quite popular lately, with different versions also appearing in CW's 'Arrow' and the recent animated film 'Batman: Assault on Arkham'.
'Suicide Squad' will be released in 2016, sometime after the studio's upcoming 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'.
