If your New Year's resolutions have failed you or you didn't make it all the way through Dry January now could be the time for redemption...
Are you giving up junk food for lent
After the hedonistic pancakes of Shrove Tuesday, topped with chocolate, sugar, toffee sauce and whatever else takes your fancy, the time has come to give something up for the 40 days of Lent.
If your New Year's resolutions have failed you or you didn't make it all the way through Dry January now could be the time for redemption.
We have asked readers through Facebook, Twitter and our online poll what they would be giving up this Ash Wednesday.
1. Sugar Quite a number of you said you'd be giving up the sweet stuff this year, in a bid to save both your teeth and your waistline.
2. Smoking Plenty of you are hoping to ditch the fags, or at least cut-down.
3. Coffee Whether it's the excessive amount of caffeine he's consuming or the amount he's spending on expensive coffee chain cappuccinos we're not sure but either way it's one of the most common choices this year. We're expecting tea sales to rocket.
4. Cheese and nuts Lorna from Sale Moor has decided to give up her two biggest vices, cheese and nuts. She might be on her own with this specific vow of abstinence but we still wish her good luck.
5. Wine Lisa Baguely won't be on her own with this as plenty of you will be binning the booze.
6. Bread Julie McKenzie told us on Facebook that she would be cutting down on carbs and ditching bread for lent this year.
7. Swearing Emma Argyle has given up curse words this year. She said: ' I've given up all the really naughty swear words, it's not going well.'
8. Chocolate The best thing about giving up chocolate for lent is that if you make it through there is all the chocolate Easter brings to act as a reward.
9. Take-aways When we looked on Twitter we found a lot of you planning to trim your waistline by ditching the pizza, curries and chips. Good for you, hopefully the weather will be nice enough by Easter to show the new trim you off.
10. Nothing Plenty of you have said that you wouldn't give up anything at all for lent. Pete Dixon and Jennifer Metcalf Haselden both said on Facebook they wouldn't be giving up anything for lent.
