PARIS - Genie Bouchard is a pretty big deal right now.
TSN, which is broadcasting the French Open, reported Friday that the overnight ratings for the 20-year-old's semi-final match against Maria Sharapova Thursday were the highest ever for a non-finals match from Roland Garros.
The average audience across TSN (286,000) and its French-language sister RDS (250,000) total 536,000 more than tripled last year's audience for the women's semifinals. Overall, TSN says, more than 1.5 million unique viewers tuned in at some point during the match.
Considering the match began at 8 a.m. EDT (5 a.m. on the West Coast) on a Thursday, those are impressive numbers - especially from RDS, which serves predominantly Quebec.
