On Tuesday night, Anderson Cooper gave CNN viewers a panoramic view of protest activity across the country. He panned to Ferguson and to Boston and then took a report from CNN's Miguel Marquez along the Franklin D. Roosevelt East River Drive in New York.

During his standup, Marquez did an admirable job of speaking above the chanting crowd behind him in New York. He summed up the proceedings, 'People [are] chanting, you know, 'Justice.' They want to stop the police shootings, the police brutality. It is a very peaceful protest. People are extremely upset, though, and as they have gone on through the night, the anger, the level of voices has only gotten louder and they've picked people up along the way.'

At that point, a certain chant from the crowd behind Marquez became quite distinguishable - and it wasn't 'Justice!' It didn't mention police brutality or police shootings. Let's just say it was more of a media-hatred chant. 'F- CNN,' the folks shouted over and over again.

In a classic bit of off-the-cuff understatement, Marquez explained to Cooper, 'And as you can hear, they don't exactly love CNN either.' Shortly thereafter, Marquez's moment was done. Taking the baton, Cooper said, 'All right, got it, Miguel. Seems like people are now playing for the cameras, so let's move on from that.'

Hats off to CNN for showing as much of the chanting as they did. But they may want to consider why it is that people seem to react so strongly to this news provider.
