WINNIPEG - What was supposed to be the first day back at school has turned into another day of holidays for many Manitoba children due to the continuing deep freeze.
Classes are cancelled in Western, Evergreen, Turtle Mountain, Lakeshore, Prairie Rose, Sunrise, Border Land, Red River Valley, Prairie Spirit, Seine River, Fort la Bosse, Pine Creek, Lord Selkirk, Frontier and Interlake school divisions on Monday morning.
There are no school buses running in the city of Winnipeg, although classes are scheduled to continue.
In the Brandon school division, rural buses are not running. Buses will run in the city.
United Airlines also cancelled flights between Chicago and Winnipeg in the morning. Travellers are advised to check their flights before heading to the airport.
All of southern Manitoba remains under a wind chill warning on Monday morning due to extreme cold temperatures.
CAA Manitoba said the cold snap has put them 24 hours behind in responding to calls.
It was -33 C with a wind chill of -45 in Winnipeg at 8 a.m.
