Jonathan Ross has signed a new deal with ITV to extend his chat show on the channel until the end of next year.

In addition to the 10-part Saturday night series already scheduled to air this autumn, the 52-year-old will host two more series in 2014.

Ross joined ITV in 2010 after quitting the BBC in the wake of the Sachsgate controversy.

He originally signed a two-series deal, which was extended for a further three series the following year.

Ross's fourth series, which ran for 20 episodes from January to May, attracted an average 2.5 million - 3.5 million viewers each week.

Sir David Attenborough, Danny Boyle, Zachary Quinto, Sir Ian McKellen, Justin Timberlake, Jamie Foxx and Gemma Arterton were among those who appeared as guests on the show.

"Jonathan Ross is a firm part of Saturday nights on ITV," ITV's commissioning editor for comedy entertainment Claire Zolkwer said.

"We're delighted that he will be returning again in 2014, with more great guests, live music, and one-on-one interviews."
