Wake Me Up is currently outselling Best Song Ever by nearly 26,000 copies.
The video for Best Song Ever, featuring Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Liam Payne dressing up in various guises, broke Vevo records after racking up 10.9 million views in 24 hours.
Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines featuring TI and Pharrell Williams slips one to number three while John Newman is down to four with Love Me Again.
Icona Pop rounds out the top five with I Love It featuring Charli XCX.
Other new entries in the singles chart include Nina Nesbitt at 39 with Way In The World, Scouting For Girls at 44 with Millionaire, Diana Vickers at 46 with Cinderella, and unsigned singer/songwriter Lauren Aquilina at 53 with Sinners.
Professor Green's collaboration with Miles Kane, Are You Getting Enough?, is at 60, and YouTube star Emma Blackery debuts at 89 with Go The Distance.
In the album chart, X Factor runner-up Jahmene Douglas is on course to shoot straight to number one with debut offering Love Never Fails.
Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines is in second place while Jay Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail is in third place.
