People queued outside Apple stores around the world for hours to get their hands on the latest must have tablet from the California based firm.Apple fans queued outside the flagship store in Covent Garden, London for 24 hours to get their hands on the device which costs upwards of £399.Customers in Australia and Japan were the first to purchase the 9.7 inch tablet.



While the gadget sold in just two hours from Apple's stores in Hong Kong.The thinner, more powerful tablet went on sale in 41 countries in the biggest ever tablet launch for Apple.The release of the iPad Air, announced last week, has caused a 585 per cent increase in people trading in old tablet computers.It is the fifth generation iPad and comes with a 5 megapixel camera and is 20 per cent thinner than the previous iPad 4.

It weights less than half a kilogram and operates on Apple's new operating system iOS 7.The Apple iPad Air was released on the same day that search engine giants Google released their Nexus smartphone.It is claimed the gadget sold out of Google's online shop within minutes of being listed.
