Producers of the hit TV series Glee have announced plans for a special episode dedicated to the show's late star Cory Monteith.

The third episode of season five of the show will be replaced with a tribute to the actor, executive producer Ryan Murphy confirmed.

The series, which will return on September 26, one week later than planned, will then take a break while bosses reassess its direction.

The body of Monteith was found in a hotel room in Vancouver, Canada, on July 13.

Tests showed the 31-year-old died from an overdose of cocaine and alcohol.

Monteith was dating actress Lea Michele, who plays Rachel in the show

Monteith played the character of Finn Hudson in Glee, which follows a fictional high school choir.

The actor, who had struggled with addiction since he was a teenager, was dating his co-star Lea Michele.

She has spoken of her "profound loss" following his death and said she was "deeply grateful" for the support she had received.

An investigation into Monteith's death is continuing, although Barbara McLintock, of the British Columbia coroner's office, said there was "no evidence" to suggest it was anything other than a "most sad and tragic accident".
