Jay-Z's 12th studio album knocks Mumford and Sons' 'Babel' off the top spot

Jay-Z has scored his first ever Number One on the UK's Official Albums Chart. In its week of release, the rapper's 12th studio album 'Magna Carta Holy Grail' knocks Mumford and Sons' 'Babel' off the top spot. 'Babel' had returned to Number One following the band's headline slot at Glastonbury but slips to Number Five this week behind Jay-Z, Rod Stewart's 'Time', Passenger's 'All The Little Lights' and Michael Bublé's 'To Be Loved', the Official Charts Company confirms. Jay-Z's previous career best on the Official Albums Chart was a Number Four peak for 'Blueprint III' in 2009. His joint effort with Kanye West, 'Watch The Throne', climbed a place higher than that in 2011.The rapper had been clearly been informed of his chart success before his headline set at Wireless Festival yesterday (July 13). "Number One in 59 countries and most importantly, my first in England," he told the London crowd last night. He'll return to Wireless tonight (July 14) to headline the third and final night of the festival alongside Justin Timberlake as part of their 'Legends Of The Summer' world tour. Over on the Official Singles Chart, Robin Thicke's Pharrell Williams collaboration 'Blurred Lines' returns to Number One after two weeks off the top spot. Last week's chart-topper, 'Love Me Again' by John Newman, slips to second position and the highest new entry of the week comes from Sebastian Ingrosso, Tommy Trash and John Martin, who debut at Number Three with their 'Reload' collaboration. Outside of the Top Ten, Iggy Azalea scores her biggest hit yet with 'Bounce', which enters at Number 13, and Katy B has to settle for a Number 21 debut with 'What Love Is Made Of', the lead single from her forthcoming second album.
