Bloc Party are now on hiatus but bassist Gordon Moakes insists the band will be sustained by their love of music

Bassist Gordon Moakes has discussed Bloc Party's future after their headline set at Latitude Festival last night (July 19) - the band's final performance before going on hiatus. Guitarist Russell Lissack has previously revealed that the band members aren't imposing any kind of time frame on their break from each other. Frontman Kele Okereke said on stage at the Suffolk festival yesterday that it was an "emotional moment" for the band.However, speaking to NME after the band came off stage, Moakes insisted there was "nothing negative" about the occasion. "I don't think any of us can really predict the future but we feel like we're more or less firing on all cylinders," he said. "It's been a long journey to get here. To see people are still with us.... There's still a crowd who want to see us play. It's a nice feeling, to go out after a year of touring, it's a nice feeling." He also confirmed that Bloc Party's break won't be permanent, saying "there's no end point with this band" and explaining that "ultimately we just love to make music - any excuse to do that is what sustains the band". Although Bloc Party have no more live performances planned, they'll release a five-track EP called 'Nextwave Sessions' on August 12. "We sort of squeezed it in," Moakes said of band's the new material. "Everything came from live ideas. It was all done in London but on days off between tours."
