TORONTO - A friend of Mayor Rob Ford who is accused of extortion in order to obtain a video has been granted his freedom.

A justice of the peace consented to the release of Alexander Lisi, 35, in an Old City Hall courtroom Friday on $5,000 bail put up by his father.

A publication ban on the proceedings prevents the media from reporting on the contents of the hearing. Lisi, dressed in a black Canada Goose jacket, turned his back to reporters sandwiched in the court aisles.

Lisi is prohibited from contacting directly or indirectly with Liban Siyad and Mohamed Siad, the man identified by the Toronto Star as having tried to sell them a video appearing to show the mayor smoking crack cocaine. He cannot come within 500 metres of where they reside.

Lisi also has to stay away from Elaine and Fabio Basso, and at least 500 metres from their home, 15 Windsor Road. That address was purportedly the location where the video was filmed and also the backdrop for an infamous photo showing Mayor Ford posing with Anthony Smith, an alleged gang member who has been murdered, and two other alleged members of the Dixon City Bloods.

Lisi is banned from possessing weapons, illegal narcotics and cannot associate with anyone known to have a criminal record.
