When a local radio station gets taken over by a gun-wielding ex-employee, there's only one man in Norwich who can chat him down. That man is Alan Partridge.
Steve Coogan's sports commentator-turned-TV chat show host-turned-regional radio DJ is about to hit the big screen in his first feature film Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa.
And in a new clip from the much-anticipated British comedy, our man Alan prepares to enter the siege as the lead hostage negotiator.
The scene opens with the Norwich legend talking to the lead police officers - played by Anna Maxwell Martin and Darren Boyd - dealing with the hostage situation .
North Norfolk Digital has been taken at gunpoint by Alan's disgruntled colleague Pat Farrell (Colm Meaney) who will only deal with the 'Aha' man himself.
Like a true hero, Partridge steps up to the challenge but in typical awkward fashion tries to seal the 'deal' with an unrequited handshake followed by an uncomfortable kiss on the cheek.
But despite his questionable social etiquette, the officers continue their brief, and check the psychological temperament and medical condition of their 'negotiator'.
Luckily for the force, Alan is not on any medication, 'just some cream' for a 'very aggressive athlete's foot' and has only ever suffered one panic attack.
'I've had one panic attack in a car wash,' the radio host explains. 'It was a perfect storm of no sleep, no wife and angry brushes whirring towards me, and by the time the giant hair dryer went on I was in the foot well.'
Clearly his mental state was firm, but Alan also proved to himself ready for any sort of combat situation: ' I've fired several firearms... at funfairs and won prizes. But I've never fired one in anger... or at a cat.'
Hopefully Alan will be saying 'kiss my face' to the baddies holding the radio station hostage, however he's not alone in his fight with the likes of Lynne ' I'm not coming to your baptist church' Benfield (Felicity Montague) and 'mug of beans' Michael (Simon Greenall) returning for the silver screen production.
Thanks to more than a few Norwich native's Twitter campaign, the premiere of the Declan Lowney directed film will be located in Anglia Square not Leicester Square.
Alan Partridge: Alpha Dog will be in UK cinemas on August 7. Back of the net!
